Community

We think of Community as a set of ever expanding circles. At the center there is the classroom community of students and adults. Surrounding the class there are family members, and other people of the school and the KVR, all of us rooted in the natural community of the land we inhabit: the trees, ponds, streams, plants and animals of the Kickapoo Valley. We have a broader social community of Community Partners, composed of local business owners, parents, farmers, scientists, artists and community members. We recognize that upon entering school the most important thing for the young child is a safe classroom community and family connection, but as children grow they begin to see themselves belonging to the broader circles of community around them. We strive to nurture healthy relationships within each expanding circle.
